Example
The volume of water inside a swimming pool doubles every hour. If the pool is filled to its full capacity within 8 hours, in how many hours was it filled to one eighth of its capacity?
So we know that the volume is doubling every hour and that it is full at 8 hours, therefore at 7 hours it must have been half full and at 6 hours it must have been one quarter full
The answer is 5 hours.
